Tata Steel, South East Railway – Green Infra Development | India Business News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Tata Steel, a leading private steel company, on Wednesday announced its collaboration with South Eastern Railway (SER) to jointly develop sustainable rail infrastructure using slag-based aggregates.
A detailed discussion on the execution of the project took place between officials of the SER and Tata Steel, as stated in a company release.
SER general manager Anil Kumar Mishra, emphasizing the necessity of utilizing sustainable alternatives, stated during the event on Tuesday, “Utilisation of sustainable alternatives is the need of the hour, and it will also help in conserving the ecology.”
Tata Aggreto, a greener substitute for natural aggregates used in road construction, and Tata Nirman, utilized as a raw material in the manufacturing of fly ash bricks and cement, will play a crucial role in constructing blanketing layers in railway tracks.
Rajeev Shrivastava, chief administrative officer (Construction), outlined the ministry of railways’ plan to strengthen rail infrastructure during the deliberation.
Tata Steel, in its commitment to transforming steel slag into sustainable aggregates, has established an accelerated weathering facility for processing LD slag through steam ageing.
The utilization of slag-based manufactured aggregates not only aids in biodiversity preservation by reducing the need for mining natural aggregates but also eliminates the requirement of transporting aggregates over large distances, according to the company statement.
