Telecom manufacturing at ₹18,000 cr, should be scaled up 10 times: Vaishnav

New Delhi: Telecom and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnav calls upon the telecom industry to increase telecom manufacturing efforts by ten times from the current level 18000 crore with policy support from the government under the Production Linked Incentive or PLI scheme.

He emphasized India’s ambition to be a technology developer, telecom manufacturer and exporter, stressing the need to reduce dependence on imports, which can be achieved through the PLI scheme for telecom manufacturing.

He made the remarks during the inaugural event of the 7th India Mobile Congress (IMC), highlighting the important role of IMC in achieving this objective.

He asked partner countries to be included in IMC 2023, aiming to collaborate with at least four to six countries.

The 7th edition of India Mobile Congress, co-organised by the Department of Telecom, will be held from October 27 to 29 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.

Minister Vaishnav gave several recommendations for IMC 2023. He urged for the inclusion of emerging technologies such as EV, power electronics, computer electronics, deep tech, consumer electronics, AI and cyber security.

Additionally, he stressed the importance of involving 100 universities and inviting children, especially from the 5G Use Cases Lab, to expose them to the latest advances in the telecom industry.

The minister also highlighted the importance of startups working in deep technology, cable communications and consumer cyber technology. He stressed the need to facilitate knowledge sharing through sessions and discussions, thereby enabling the participants to learn from industry experts.

IMC 2023, under the theme of “Global Digital Innovation”, will explore cutting edge topics such as advancements in 6G, 5G networks, AI in telecom, edge computing, Industry 4.0 and emergence of India Stack. The event also plans to broaden its ambit by including related technology domains such as Broadcast, Sat-Com, Manufacturing and Semiconductor through strategic partnerships with various associations.

In addition, IMC 2023 will introduce a grand start-up program “Aspire”, which aims to ignite future entrepreneurial growth among young innovators and industry professionals in the telecom and digital domains. The event will include sections such as Investor Zone, Pitching Zone, Workshop Zone and Networking Zone, which will provide a comprehensive platform for innovation and collaboration.
