Thane: A 44-year-old woman Lucyist The region suffered a loss of around Rs 4 lakh from online scammers who contacted and convinced him to download a suspicious mobile application after failing online shopping Transactions recently, the police reported on Sunday.
According to the Wagle Estate police probing the matter, the woman had made the purchase. grocery and essential things on the portal of a popular portal but the transaction had apparently failed. Meanwhile, the woman received a call from three unknown numbers in which the caller introduced himself as the representative of the portal.
“The woman was told that her recent transaction which apparently failed can be activated after completing certain online formalities. The caller asked her to download an application, which was sent to her mobile number, following which the unsuspecting woman followed his instructions without ascertaining the authenticity of the same,” the police said.
The woman realized this when she received a message that Rs 4 lakh had been debited from her account, following which she approached the Wagle Estate police and filed a complaint against the caller.
Meanwhile, experts have urged residents to be more wary of online scams and encouraged them to ascertain the genuineness of the callers before downloading any application on their mobile phones.
