Announcing the government’s decision to provide land and build houses for the landless poor, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said that a notification in this direction would be issued soon.

He said that the poor have the first right on the country’s resources.

The announcement was made while addressing a function at Garkhal Seema Gram Panchayat in Akhnoor area of Jammu district on Tuesday evening.

“There was no provision by the government to provide land to the landless. We have removed regressive land laws and the government will now provide land to the landless as well as houses under the PMAY scheme,” he said.

The Lt Governor said that the Center has allotted an additional 1,99,550 houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G).

“Out of these, more than 19,000 houses are for Jammu district. This allotment will go a long way in achieving the objective of housing for all,” he added.

He said that the development of our villages would soon become the driving force for the development of the country.

Shri Sinha also appreciated the district administration for their efforts to accelerate the socio-economic development of Garkhal Panchayat.

He said, “The border gram panchayat of Garkhal is writing a golden chapter of development with the active participation of the residents and is turning it into a model village.”

“It is our determination to bridge the gap between rural and urban J&K. We are ramping up infrastructure development, strengthening the health and education sectors and creating productive employment opportunities for our youth.

The LG said, “Our aim is to ensure that no one from villages, especially border residents, has to move to cities in search of basic amenities, employment and livelihood.”
