When The Kerala Story released earlier this year, the film created a massive controversy. A section of the audience opposed the film and called it a ‘propaganda’ film. Even Kamal Haasan and Naseeruddin Shah opposed the film. Months later, The Kerala Story’s lead actress has given a befitting reply to those opposing her film.
What does Adah Sharma have to say about ‘famous actors’ opposing Kerala Story?
In a recent interview, Adah Sharma opened up about Kamal Haasan and Naseeruddin Shah opposing her film and that even ‘famous actors’ could not stop the box office success of her film.
“I am delighted at the freedom of expression in our country where a film can be maligned, labeled and publicly flouted without even watching it. Anyone can say anything about anyone and be clean; This is the beauty of India. I love my country! People with different ideologies can live together. It is surprising that even after so many eminent actors made their stand clear about the film, the audience chose to go to the theaters to support the film’s stand against terrorism,” he told Jagran.
What did Kamal Haasan, Naseeruddin Shah say about the Kerala story?
Earlier, in an interview to news agency ANI, Kamal Haasan had described The Kerala Story as a ‘propaganda’ film and said, I told you, these are propaganda films that I am against. It’s not enough if you just write down the ‘true story’ as a logo. This really should be true and it is not true.
Naseeruddin Shah also said that the box office success of The Kerala Story is a ‘dangerous trend’. “On one hand, it is a dangerous trend, there is no doubt about it. It appears that we are going the way of Nazi Germany, where in Hitler’s time, filmmakers were roped in to make films praising the supreme leader for what he and his countrymen had done, including An attempt was made and is underway. Released on 5 May, The Kerala Story revolves around the stories of Hindu women from Kerala who were converted to Islam and trafficked to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). Apart from Adah Sharma, the film also starred Yogita Bihani, Sonia Balani and Siddhi Idnani in key roles.
The Kerala Story is produced, developed and distributed by Sunshine Pictures, owned by Vipul Amritlal Shah. The film is funded by Sunshine Pictures Pvt Ltd, founded by Vipul Amritlal Shah, who is the producer, creative director and co-writer of the film, co-produced by Ashin A Shah and directed by Sudipto Sen.
The Kerala Story earned over Rs 240 crore at the domestic box office.
