Kerala Milk Cooperative has called Karnataka’s Nandini An ‘immoral practice’.

Kerala vs Karnataka milk debate is not new. It all started in April this year when the KCMMF opposed the presence of Nandini in Kerala, terming it as an ‘immoral’ practice.

Milma Brand President KS Mani then said, “Nandini’s move to expand its sales in Kerala is unethical and destroys the purpose of India’s dairy movement. Earlier they used to sell only value added products and now they are selling milk also. He also started shop-to-shop distribution of milk in Kerala. We wrote a letter to them in this regard and there has been no response.”

Karnataka Cooperative Minister Kyathasandra Rajanna has opposed the allegations of ‘unethical behaviour’. In an interview to NDTV, the minister said, “In a democratic country, anyone can sell their product anywhere. There is nothing unethical in this. At the end of the day, it’s about competition and consumers will only choose the product that offers the best quality.”

Nandini found herself at the center of a heated political controversy just before the Karnataka assembly elections, when the Congress alleged that the then ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government led by Basavaraj Bommai was trying to bring Gujarat’s Amul to the southern state. Was getting it done.

The Congress alleged that this would harm the producers and economy of the state’s domestic brand Nandini, run by the Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF).
