There have been many such mayors in UP, who have hoisted their glory in politics. There was a mayor who was made the deputy CM of Uttar Pradesh because of his impeccable image. Yes… you guessed it right. Today we are talking about Dr. Dinesh Sharma, who took the oath of Deputy CM in the year 2017 from the platform of CM Yogi.

Before voting, we talked to former UP Chief Minister Dr. Dinesh Sharma. He told us some interesting stories from his life. Let us follow their words one by one and know how a mayor became the deputy chief minister of the entire state.

This story does not start from UP but from Pakistan.
After independence, Quetta province came under the part of Pakistan at the time of partition. At that time there was a terrible earthquake in Quetta. People were running here and there to save their lives. In the midst of this chaos, a small girl Shanti separated from her family and reached Charbagh railway station in Lucknow. In such a big city, when no one showed peace to the unknown Shanti, she started crying sitting under a big banyan tree near the railway station.

That’s why Rani Leela Ramkumar Bhargava, a well-known social worker of Lucknow who was passing that way, caught sight of Shanti. She came close to him and asked – why are you crying daughter, what happened? Hearing the voice of Queen Leela, innocent Shanti hugged her crying. After a while, when she became silent, she told the whole story of being separated from the family. Rani Leela’s eyes filled with tears after listening to Shanti. She firmly held Shanti’s hand and brought her home. Shanti has passed 5 years while living in Rani Leela’s house. Now Lucknow was starting to feel like his home. Rani Leela had also started considering Shanti as her own daughter.

Suddenly one day Shanti’s mother Dheerajdai Shukla reached Rani Leela Bhargava’s house searching for her. Seeing his daughter, his happiness knew no bounds. She wanted Shanti to go back with her but Shanti herself requested her mother to stay at Rani Leela’s house. Dheerajdai’s daughter could not avoid Shanti’s talk, so she herself started working as Maharajin at Rani Sahib’s house.

When Shanti’s schooling was completed in Lucknow, Rani Leela Bhargava taught her MA literature and Ratna Visharad. Rani Saheb only got Shanti married to wrestler Kedar Nath Sharma alias Padha ji. On 12 January 1964, Shanti gave birth to a son. Named – Dinesh. The boy who became the Deputy CM of UP after 53 years.

Wrestler’s son made politics a career
Dr. Dinesh Sharma said, “In those days, a wrestler from Pakistan, Sadiq challenged all the wrestlers in the akhada to fight. A reward of 5 thousand rupees was kept for the wrestler who defeated Sadiq, in which the father defeated Sadiq the wrestler. Later, when the time came to collect the prize, there was a quarrel over the amount. Meanwhile, to calm the matter, the prize money was divided in half between the two. With this money, father started the business.

“I completed my PhD because of my mother’s sacrifice, my father’s hard work, my maternal grandmother Late Rani Leela Ramkumar Bhargava and my mentor KK Saxena.” Dr. Dinesh Sharma remained associated with RSS during his studies. In the year 1987, he was elected as the President of Lucknow Vidyarthi Parishad. Since then his political career started.

Due to activism in student politics and simplicity in nature, in the year 1991, Dinesh Sharma was made the Vice President of State Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha. After this, in the year 1993, he was elected the state president of the Bharatiya Yuva Janata Morcha, a position he held till 1998.

Dr. Dinesh Sharma says, “The story of getting the first big political post was also very interesting. Those days the search was going on in the BJP office for the post of Yuva Morcha President. When I reached the office, Chief Ministers Ram Prakash Gupta, Kalyan Singh, Kalraj Mishra and Sunder Singh Bhandari were sitting there. Actually, that day I had gone to recommend someone else for the post of BJP Yuva Morcha president. But after listening to me, Bhandari ji got angry and scolded me and said get-out.”

“The other day I got a message from Kalraj Mishra that I have to prepare a press note for some programme. I reached there, I asked Kalraj Mishra about Bhandari ji’s scolding, then he said that Bhandari ji had scolded you because he wanted to make you the president of BJP Yuva Morcha and announced this within a short time. It is about the year 1999. Atal Bihari Vajpayee reached the Parliament after winning the Lucknow Lok Sabha seat. He often used to come to Lucknow to attend party programs and political rallies. In those days Dr. Dinesh Sharma was well known among Kalraj Mishra and senior BJP leaders. Meanwhile, during a program, Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s eyes fell on Dinesh Sharma.

Atal was heartbroken to see the dedication of Dr. Dinesh Sharma for the BJP. This was the reason that when the municipal elections were held in 2006, Dinesh Sharma was chosen as the BJP candidate for the post of Mayor of Lucknow on Atal ji’s request. In the same year, Atal also held his last public meeting in Lucknow, in which he asked for votes for Dr. Dinesh Sharma.

This meeting took place at Kapurthala Square in Lucknow. BJP workers and fans of Atal ji in the meeting were taken by surprise when Atal suddenly asked them for a pajama. Referring to this incident, Sharma says, “Atal ji had come to Kapurthala to hold a meeting in support of me during the mayoral election. At that time he had 104 degree fever. He asked the public that if he wore only kurta and not pyjama then how Will see.”

The people present there were in wonder as to what Atal ji wanted to say. Someone shouted.. will look bad. Then Atal ji said that after winning the election of MP from Lucknow, you people gave me a kurta. I also want pajama after winning the municipal mayor election. Sharma said that this statement of Atal ji gave him victory in the 2006 mayoral election.
