Thieves found nothing at elderly man's house, left Rs 500: Police

“Further investigation has started,” the police said.

Not finding anything worth stealing, the thieves allegedly left behind Rs 500 notes at a house in Sector 8 of Rohini, New Delhi, police said.

The bizarre incident, which took place on the intervening night of July 20-21, came to light after the homeowner lodged a complaint.

M Ramakrishna, an 80-year-old retired engineer, said in his complaint that on the evening of July 19, he had gone with his wife to meet their son living in Gurugram.

Police said, “On the morning of July 21, he received a call from his neighbor that his house had been burgled. On receiving the information, he immediately rushed to his house, where he found the lock of the main door broken. When he went inside, he found that the thieves could not steal anything.”

“They told the police that nothing was stolen, but they found a Rs 500 note lying near the main gate,” the police said.

He further told the police that he did not keep any valuables inside his house. “The shelves were intact,” he said.

Based on his complaint, the police registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and are on the lookout to nab the thieves

“Further investigation has started,” the police said.
