The late actor was featured in more than 390 films in his career which spanned from the early 1960s to the early 2000s.

We always talk about actors who headline the films or are the antagonists along with the leading artists. But a film is not complete without supporting actors. They are an integral part of the movies as they play crucial roles in giving the much-needed boost. One of the actors is Satyendra Kapoor better known as Satyen Kappu.

The actor was born in February 1931 in Panipat, Punjab during the colonial rule of the British (now Haryana). The late actor was featured in more than 390 films in his career which spanned from the early 1960s to the early 2000s.

Satyen Kappu started his career as a stage actor in 1952 with the Indian People’s Theatre Association (IPTA) in Mumbai. He is famously known for his role as Ramlal in Sholay or Amitabh Bachchan’s father in Deewar. He had usually played the role of a father, relative, uncle, police officer, doctor, and villain in his career. Some of his best roles in the film include Kati Patang, Yaadon Ki Baraat, Khote Sikkay, Don, Raaste Ka Patthar, Benaam, Zanjeer, Majboor, Namak Halaal, Kaala Patthar and Mr Natwarlal among others.

Satyen Kappu had dubbed in two Hindi films; the main villain’s voice in Gehri Chaal in 1973 and Mohammed Al Fardin’s diagloues in 1972 film Subah-O-Shaam. His family started their film production company in 1994 and named the banner Satyen Kappu Film Production.

Satyen Kappu also worked on four films which got shelved before the films were released after the shooting was completed. In the year 1988, he worked in Prem Chunariya and Barson Ki Pyaas and in 1995 he gave his contribution to Aurat Mange Insaaf. The 1993 film Kanoon Mange Insaaf was also shelved after it was made.

The late actor was last seen in Sarhad Paar starring Sanjay Dutt in the lead which was released in 2006. He died at the age of 76 on October 27, 2007, due to a heart attack. It was reported that he had been suffering from high blood pressure and diabetes for a long time.
