This ‘warning’ about India Post Payments bank is fake – Times of India

Indian Post Payments Bank is a government-owned bank that offers various services like savings accounts, current accounts, loans, insurance, investment options, post office saving schemes and more.
A message saying that the India Post Payments Bank account will be blocked if the PAN card is not updated has been circulating via SMS and mail.
PIB Fact Check, a platform owned by PIB that busts fake news by checking and presenting facts and figures, has mentioned that the message circulation is “Fake”.
What’s the message?
India Post Payments Bank users are receiving this message — “Dear user, your India post payment bank account has been blocked today please update your PAN Card immediately click here the link-http://surl.li/iccpf”.
These messages often include that the account will get blocked within 24 hours if the PAN card is not updated.
The message is fake
PIB Fact Check has confirmed that these messages are fake. India Post Payments Bank never sends such messages. In addition, the fact check body has advised that users should avoid sharing their personal and bank details with anyone.
What you should do if you receive such a message
If you have an account in India Post Payments Bank and you happen to receive this message, then there are certain things you should do before acting on the received message or clicking on the link provided in it.
It should be noted that the link may be fake or a way for hackers or scammers to gain your personal information including banking details as well as PAN card details which can result in a fraud or money scam in future.
Also, if you have received this message, make sure to check this with the bank first. Also, you can use the app or net banking to verify if your bank account is linked with PAN or not. In case, if it is not, follow the official process to do that. And, if you are not sure, feel free to visit the nearest Indian Post Payments Bank branch.
