Thousands line up on streets to welcome ‘nagada’ | Allahabad News – Times of India

PRAYARGAJ: Thousands of lord Ram devotees and workers of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal (Kashi Prant) on Tuesday welcomed the 1100 Kg giant nagada (drum) amid chanting of Jai Shri Ram on its arrival in Sangam city.
The nagada made by Reewa (Madhya Pradesh) based social organisation Shiv Barat Ayojan and Jan Kalyan Samiti will be dedicated to the newly constructed Lord Ram temple in Ayodhya on Wednesday.
VHP (general secretary Kashi Prant- Gau Raksha) Lalmani Tiwari told TOI: “A cavalcade of around 101 vehicles carrying the nagada arrived at Chakghat on UP-MP border on Tuesday afternoon and it was escorted by thousands of devotees and workers of VHP. As the journey entered Prayagraj about 50 more vehicles joined the cavalcade.”
Devotees, including many women, assembled on both sides of streets to offer prayers and kept showering flower petals. A group of priests and devotees performed arti and special puja. He said the samiti members have made the nagada from iron at a cost of around Rs 3 lakh in a period of two months. Tiwari added that the journey of nagada started from Baiju Dharamsala (Reewa) on Tuesday morning and will continue till Karsevakpuram in Ayodhya by late Tuesday night.
The journey passed through Naribari, Jari, Gohaniya, Ghurpur, Dandi, Naini, New Yamuna Bridge, Balson crossing, Teliyarganj and other localities. The nagada has received a certificate from ASIA Book Of Records which reads that Shiv Barat Ayojan Evam Jan Kalyan Samiti, Reewa of Madhya Pradesh, India set record for biggest iron nagada (drum).
