Surat: Uttarayan is three weeks away but the city has reported three cases of injuries due to deadly manjha (kite flying thread). All the three incidents of manjha injuring humans have happened on bridges.
Many birds have also been injured. Bird rescue NGO is getting regular calls every day.

“The string attached to the kite suddenly cut my neck. I had a deep cut on my throat,” Rathod (40) told TOI. He got nine stitches.
same day, Begampura Resident Arif Lokhandwala (45) was seriously injured when he was on the Gotalwadi bridge in Katargam. Lokhandwala was on his motorcycle when Manja inflicted a deep wound on his neck. He also got cuts on his fingers when he tried to pull the razor-sharp thread. He had to be admitted to the hospital.
In another incident, Bablu Vishwakarma (20) On December 18, he fell from the motorcycle and was seriously injured, while his wife and four-year-old daughter were injured. Vishwakarma was on the Piyush Point flyover at the time of the incident.
“Normally the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) puts strings on bridges to prevent kite strings from falling on commuters. We do this after December 25 because kite flying activities start during that time.
“Keeping in mind the recent incidents, we will immediately wire the bridges. Other necessary steps will also be taken,” said Paresh PatelChairman, Standing Committee, SMC.
