Dharwad Deputy Commissioner Gurudutt Hegde said the officials were busy with elections and other work, due to which the fare meters could not be implemented on autos. He said, “Now enough time has been given to the auto owners and drivers to get their fare meters installed. Soon the date regarding strict implementation of the fare meters will be finalized after discussion with the officers of the concerned departments in the RTA meeting.” will be shaped.” ,
According to sources in the Dharwad DC office, the RTA increased the minimum fare for auto rickshaws in July from Rs 28 to Rs 30 for the first 1.6 km. As per the revised tariff, the fare will be Rs 15 for every additional 1 km and auto drivers can charge 50% extra between 10 pm and 5 am.
The auto fares were last revised in October 2017-18. Petrol and diesel prices have increased in recent months. Sources said that considering the petition of autorickshaw drivers associations, the fare was revised.
