Traffic jam in R Bazar-Japath area due to encroachment. Patna News – Times of India

Patna: The King The market flyover, built to ease the flow of traffic on Bailey Road, does not serve the purpose due to encroachments on both sides of the road below it.
The flyover became operational several years back, but the Bailey Road below it is still heavily encroached by street vendors and makeshift stalls on both sides. The route between Jagdevpath and Sheikhpura Mod remains congested throughout the day, causing a lot of inconvenience to commuters.
The situation worsens during morning and evening peak hours, when vegetable vendors set up their stalls. In the evening, the whole area looks like a vegetable market. Many illegal shops have also come up on both sides of the road. Paan stalls, tea stalls, fruit stalls and fish and chicken vendors can be found everywhere on Bailey Road. Vehicles are also parked illegally on the road. There is a parking facility under the flyover, but that too is occupied by vendors.
Raja Bazar is considered a commercial area where many malls have also come up over the years. Showrooms for clothing, home appliances, electronics, footwear and opticals have also opened in the area. Many big government and private hospitals are also located in the area including Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences. Ambulances also get stuck due to the jam, due to which the lives of the patients are in danger.
Shraddha Kumari, a student of JD Women’s College, said, “I find it difficult to reach college on time due to heavy traffic jam almost daily. Raja Bazar is a commercial place and many people park their vehicles on the side of the road, which adds to the problem of traffic jam.
The district administration, in collaboration with the Patna Municipal Corporation, has launched several anti-encroachment campaigns on Bailey Road, but the vendors return with their stalls within no time. Patna Divisional Commissioner Kumar Sunday Said that the district administration conducts anti-encroachment campaign in different areas at regular intervals. “A team of officials will re-identify the spot and remove the encroachment soon,” he added.
