Traffic congestion at Ghatkopar on Eastern Express Highway is expected to ease before the monsoon as MMRDA plans to complete work on the third Chheda Nagar flyover by May.
Highway junction improvement plan
1 Flyover finished | Connector between the existing northsouth Chheda Nagar flyover and Amar Mahal flyover
2 Flyover finished | Above Chheda Nagar Junction from indian oil corporation on gmlr to thane-bound lanes on EEH
3 Flyover to be constructed | A south-north flyover to take traffic from Amar Mahal towards Vikhroli
Project overview

  • Before the initiation of the triple-flyover project, Chheda Nagar junction had only one flyover to take traffic in the direction of Sion from Thane. This was one-way, without a north-bound arm
Length:650m Lanes:2
Opened: March 2022 Cost: Rs 52cr

  • Thus, traffic piles up on the north-bound carriageway as vehicles halt at the signal to take a right turn for GMLR. This movement also holds up traffic from GMLR to Mulund via EEH
Length:1.2 km Lanes:2
Opened: April 2023 Cost:Rs94 cr

  • After being on the drawing board for years, work began on the triple-flyover project in July 2018. It has taken five and six years for the first and second flyovers to be finished

Cost: Rs58cr
