Trimbakeshwar Temple Entry Line: Police on Tuesday registered an FIR against four people for allegedly desecrating a place of worship at the Trimbakeshwar temple in Nashik. Police said a group of people belonging to a different religion allegedly tried to forcefully enter the famous temple.

Decades-old ritual, claim locals

Speaking about the incident, the official said that members of the group that reached the entrance of the temple included local people.
Prima facie, he had requested the temple authorities to allow him to perform a ritual (showing scented smoke to the deity) at the entrance as per the tradition of several decades.

As their request was refused, the group returned from the place, the officer said, adding that investigation is on.

An official of the temple trust said on Monday that the security guards of the Trimbakeshwar temple foiled the group’s attempt on Saturday night.

According to the temple management, only Hindus are allowed to enter the temple – one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. The temple trust had given a complaint to the police.

Some video clips of the incident went viral on social media platforms. Fadnavis’ office said in a statement that an officer of the rank of Additional Director General (ADG) would head the SIT.

“The SIT will probe not only this incident but also a similar incident which took place in the same temple last year. A group representing some community had entered the temple, Fadnavis said in the statement.
