Twitter is expanding the Community Notes feature: How it will help users

Twitter is expanding its Community Notes feature to allow users to add context to images shared on the micro-blogging app. It has introduced a new feature called Notes on Media that will automatically add context to images in the future.

Twitter Currently testing the feature for tweets containing only a single image, but the company plans to expand the feature to support tweets with multiple images, GIFs, and videos in the future.

Announcing the new feature through a post, the company said, “Contributors with a Writing Impact Score of 10 or higher will have the ability to write notes about media found within Tweets, instead of focusing on specific Tweets.” There is an option. Contributors should select this option when they believe the added context would be helpful independently of the Tweet the note is associated with.”

“Evaluators and readers will see notes that authors have marked as “about the image” so it is clear to everyone that they should be understood to be about the media, not the specific Tweet. Ratings can help identify cases where a note may not apply to a specific Tweet.” Twitter Community Notes Added

Users will be able to add context to either the tweet itself or to the embedded images. Once users click on the ‘about image’ toggle, the community note will appear on all tweets containing the same image.

The Notes on Media feature is currently in testing, meaning it won’t match all tweets containing the same image, but the company says it’s working to increase the feature’s reach while avoiding mis-matches .

Twitter had announced Birdwatch, its crowd-sourced fact-checking program, in the US in 2021. Elon Musk acquired Twitter in a $44 billion deal, they renamed the feature Community Notes.

Twitter made the Community Notes feature available to tweets around the world in December last year.
