Twitter’s refusal to pay its Google Cloud bills as its contract comes up for renewal this month could result in crippling the social media company’s trust and security teams, the platformer reported on Saturday.

Twitter’s refusal to pay its Google Cloud bills as its contract comes up for renewal this month could result in crippling the social media company’s trust and security teams, the platformer reported on Saturday.

The report said that before Elon Musk’s acquisition of the social media platform last year, Twitter signed a multi-year contract with Google related to fighting spam and protecting accounts.

The platformer’s report did not provide details on how the conflict between the companies could hinder Twitter’s trust and security teams. The Information said Twitter has been trying to renegotiate its contract with Google since at least March.

The platformer said Twitter hosts some services on its own servers and keeps others on Amazon and Google’s cloud platforms.

In March, Amazon warned Twitter that it would freeze advertising payments due to the company’s outstanding bills for cloud computing services, Amazon Web Services, according to The Information.

Since Musk’s acquisition, Twitter has dramatically cut costs and laid off thousands of employees. A source told Reuters in November that Musk had ordered the company to cut infrastructure costs, such as spending on cloud services, by $1 billion.

Twitter did not immediately respond to an emailed inquiry, while Google did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
