Coimbatore: The principal subordinate court in the district on Wednesday sentenced two men to seven years of imprisonment for robbing a businessman at knifepoint in 2017.
A court source identified the convicts as Muthupandi and Murugesan, of Coimbatore. He said the duo had robbed Senthilkumar, 43, of Velliyankadu in Tirupur, of his gold ring weighing three sovereigns, Rs4,000 and a mobile phone at knifepoint on the night of November 16, 2017.
The incident took place when Senthilkumar, who was involved in the business of selling stones for gold ornaments, visited a shop on Raja Street in Coimbatore, the source said.“After the business deal, he went to the corporation restroom near the TK Market. When he came out, a three-member gang robbed him.”
Senthilkumar lodged a complaint with the Bazaar police, who nabbed Maniraj, Muthupandi and Murugesan in connection with the case and lodged them in jail.
Meanwhile, Maniraj, who came out on bail, died due to illness. The case trial was conducted before the principal subordinate court in Coimbatore.
On Wednesday, judge M Nambirajan pronounced the verdict and imposed a fine of ₹1,000 each on the two convicts. tnn
