Two women policemen injured in accident with stray cow. Rajkot News – Times of India

Rajkot: Mayor Pradeep Dav’s order to catch stray cattle from the streets of the city seems to be hollow.
On Friday, two women policemen suffered serious injuries after their two-wheeler rammed into a cow, which had gone mad and suddenly came on the road.
The incident took place in Mavdi area when the police – Lok Rakshak Pooja Sadadia (21), and Constable Gayatri Devamurari (22) – were returning from the morning parade. Both fell badly on the road after colliding with the cow and were admitted to the civil hospital. One of the policemen had a broken tooth and both had serious head and leg injuries. However, his condition is said to be stable.
Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC)’s animal control team is working day and night to catch the stray cattle, but the menace continues to pose a threat to the lives of citizens.
Last week, a stray cow badly injured a man and his daughter in Bhowmeshwar area. The veterinary doctor of RMC had lodged a complaint against the cow owner.
The RMC caught 425 stray cattle, mostly cows, last week. According to officials, the teams capture more than 50 cattle daily. But cattle herders are now driving their animals away even before the RMC team arrives.
Besides this, the city police commissioner issued a notification asking all cow breeders to register their cattle within 60 days starting December 12. ,
Officials told that the main reason behind this is that those who do not have space Will not come forward to keep the animals as registration will not happen until they show sufficient space.
As per a rough estimate, there are around 3,500 cows tagged with RMC, but more than 12,000 are roaming the streets
