Ukraine to replace defense minister in wartime reshuffle – Times of India

Kyiv: A senior lawmaker said on Sunday that Ukraine’s defense minister would be replaced by a military intelligence chief in the wake of possible Russian attacks and corruption scandals.
,Kirillo Budanov Head the Ministry of Defence, which is quite logical in wartime,” said senior lawmaker David Arakhamiya, referring to the 37-year-old head of military intelligence.
Oleksiy ReznikovThe 56-year-old will be appointed minister for strategic industries, the legislator said without specifying a timeline for the planned reshuffle.
“War dictates personnel policies,” said Arakhmia, head of President Volodymyr Zelensky’s party.
“Time and circumstances require reinforcement and regrouping. It is happening now and will continue to happen in the future,” he said.
“The enemy is preparing to advance. We are preparing to defend ourselves.”
Reznikov said in an interview with a local news site that he had not been informed of his new appointment to the Ministry of Strategic Industry.
“I can remark that this is new information to me. I did not have any conversation with the President of Ukraine about the Ministry of Strategic Industry,” he said.
One of the best-known faces of Ukraine’s war effort, Reznikov was appointed defense minister in November 2021 and has helped secure Western arms to bolster the Ukrainian military.
But his ministry has been beset by corruption scandals.
Reznikov’s deputy was forced to resign at the end of January after the ministry was accused of signing food contracts at prices two to three times higher than the current rates for basic foodstuffs.
Speaking to reporters earlier on Sunday, Reznikov said only President Volodymyr Zelensky, who last week stepped up efforts to crack down on corruption, could decide his fate.
Reznikov said, “It is difficult to accurately assess the stress I have experienced this year. I am not ashamed of anything.” “My conscience is absolutely clear.”
