Ukraine will 'test, use' any non-prohibited weapon to recapture Crimea: official

Kyiv:

The head of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council said on Friday that Ukraine would “test and use” any non-prohibited weapons to liberate its territory, including Russia-occupied Crimea.

Oleksiy Danilov’s comments come as Kiev is expected to launch a counter-offensive in the coming weeks or months with the aim of retaking Russian-held territory in the south and east.

“Crimea is the territory of Ukraine, and we will test and use any weapon there that is not prohibited by international law to help liberate our territories,” he tweeted.

Kiev’s Western allies have provided significant military aid, including modern battle tanks and armored vehicles, since Russia’s full-scale invasion last year.

But he has refused to provide heavy weapons such as the F-16 fighter jets that Ukraine has demanded.

Kiev is also developing its own weapons, such as drones and the Neptune missile, which it says sank the flagship of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet last year.

Russia annexed the Crimean peninsula in 2014.
