Ukraine's Zelensky expected to meet Pope Francis tomorrow: report

Volodymyr Zelensky is expected to meet Pope Francis at the Vatican on Saturday.

Kyiv:

Diplomatic sources said on Thursday that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is expected to meet with Pope Francis at the Vatican on Saturday.

The planned visit, which has not been officially announced, comes just two weeks after the pope joined a Vatican peace mission to try to end the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

Pope Francis gave no further details about the initiative.

There was no immediate comment from Kiev on the news of the possible visit. Zelensky’s office does not release details of his travel plans ahead of time out of concern for his safety.

An Italian political source confirmed that Zelensky may be in Rome over the weekend and said he may also see Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
