New Delhi: The government said on Wednesday that Unit-3 of Kakrapar The nuclear power plant in Gujarat is expected to start commercial operations by December this year after receiving phase-wise regulatory clearances.
in written answer to a question in Lok Sabha Atomic Energy Minister on Wednesday Jitendra Singh Said that based on the commissioning feedback, amendments and improvements have been made in Unit-3 and their verification has also been completed. He said that the unit is now fully compliant with regulatory approvals for raising startups and progressive power.
During unit commissioning, after synchronization with the grid, elevated temperatures were observed in some areas of the reactor building. Since then these have been addressed by requisite amendments and reforms.
Singh also said that Unit-4 of KAPP has achieved physical progress of 93.65 per cent till June 2022. Among the other 700 MW Pressurized Heavy Water Reactors (PHWRs) under construction, RAPP 7 and 8 at Rawatbhata, Rajasthan have achieved physical progress of 95% and 80.8% respectively.
In respect of GHAVP 1 and 2 units Gorakhpur In Haryana, various buildings and structures are under construction. In 10 PHWRs – Kaiga 5 and 6 in Karnataka, GHAVP 3 and 4 in Gorakhpur, Haryana, Mahi Banswara 1 to 4 in Rajasthan and discount Pre-project activities and procurement of long-delivery equipment have been started at sites 1 and 2 – in Madhya Pradesh. Excavation has also started in Kaiga 5 and 6 units.
