UP ATS arrests 74 Rohingyas in statewide crackdown | Lucknow News – Times of India

Lucknow: The Anti-Terrorism Squad of Uttar Pradesh Police on Monday arrested 74 Rohingyas allegedly living illegally in Uttar Pradesh under a special operation.

Special Director General (Law & Order) Prashant Kumar Told that a 24-hour special operation was conducted on the input given by intelligence agencies about Rohingyas living in UP on fake documents.
“The information was verified by the district and field units and on Monday the ATS with the help of the local police launched an operation and caught 74 Rohingyas from the state,” Kumar said.

ATS teams raided six districts of UP, including Saharanpur, Meerut, Hapur, Ghaziabad, Aligarh and Mathura. Kumar said that those arrested include 55 men, 14 women, three minor boys and two minor girls. FIR is being registered in the police stations of the respective districts. “All of them had created fake documents with Indian identity and were taking benefits from the state government,” he added. ATS sources said that most of these Rohingyas were living in slums for a long time.
Kumar said the investigation is still going on and based on his questioning, more raids and arrests may take place. The maximum number of 31 Rohingyas were caught from Mathura, followed by 17 in Aligarh, 16 in Hapur, four each in Ghaziabad and Meerut and two in Saharanpur.
ATS said that both the accused have been identified as Armaan alias abu talha And abdul amin Rohingyas who had been illegally brought to India from Myanmar and Bangladesh, passing them off as Indians on the basis of forged documents and being sent abroad through a human-trafficking network – were arrested in March.
Sources said Rohingyas are provided Hindu identity for jobs abroad – mostly in bay, South Africaand UK.
