UP Cong chief seeking closure with Ansaris? | Varanasi News – Times of India

VARANASI: Less than a year after the Varanasi court sentenced gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari to life imprisonment for the 1991 murder of Awadhesh Rai, brother of Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee chief Ajay Rai, the latter appears inclined to reconcile with the Ansari family following Mukhtar’s recent demise.
As a key witness in his brother Awadhesh Rai’s murder case, the UPCC chief has refrained from passing any remark on Mukhtar after his death.Instead, he hints at a reciprocal gesture towards Mukhtar’s elder brother and Samajwadi Party candidate, Afzal Ansari, for his support to Congress during the 2014 Lok Sabha polls. Following Mukhtar’s burial at his ancestral town of Yusufpur Mohammadabad on Saturday, Rai told TOI, “It is not our custom to make harsh comments about anyone following their demise. Such behaviour is deemed unfair even in the Sanatan tradition.”
