PM Modi’s US visit: As a follow-up to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s historic state visit to the United States in June, a repatriation ceremony for 105 smuggled antiquities handed over by the US side was held at the Indian Consulate in New York on Monday. India has been informed.
“The antiquities will soon be transported to India. The 105 artefacts represent a wide geographical spread in terms of their origin in India. About 50 artefacts deal with religious themes (Hinduism, Jainism and Islam) and the rest are of cultural importance ” Consulate said.
Speaking on the occasion, India’s Ambassador to the United States, Taranjit Singh Sandhu thanked the US side, especially Manhattan District Attorney, Alvin Bragg and his Anti-Smuggling Unit and Homeland Security Investigation Team for their excellent cooperation and support .
“105 Indian antiquities to return home! Delighted to participate in a ceremony in New York this morning that marks the restoration of Indian artefacts following PM Modi’s state visit,” said Taranjit Singh Sandhu. Safeguarding and Exchange of Cultural Property I appreciate the cooperation provided by the US.” ,
