Vij May Lose Health Dept To Dr Gupta, Get Local Bodies | Chandigarh News – Times of India

Chandigarh: Haryana ministers Anil Vij and Dr Kamal Gupta are likely to swap places in the Haryana cabinet. Given the discussions at Haryana civil secretariat, chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar is likely to withdraw the health department from Vij and give it to Gupta, and take the latter’s urban local bodies portfolio and give Vij its charge.
In an informal chat with media persons, Dr Guptaexpressed ignorance about the development.“I am hearing this only from you and some of your colleagues in the media. Otherwise, we never had any such discussion and I do not have any such information aboutcabinet reshuffle. As of now, I am clearing files of my department,” he said.
However, Vij, who had not reacted to media queries earlier, later admitted that he had not been looking at the files related to the health department for a while.
Earlier this month, a senior functionary of the chief minister’s office (CMO) had called the meeting of health department officials without informing or keeping Vij in the loop. An irked Vij has stopped looking at the files or meeting officials from the health department for related issues ever since. Even on Monday, he did not entertain the health department officials but chaired a meeting of the home department as well as senior officials of the police department.
Khattar too refrained from interacting with the media after chairing a meeting of flood control as well as the high power committee on Monday. Those close to CMO said “it is only the prerogative of CM and only he can respond to (such a) query”. However, an official confirmed that during the meeting with senior leaders in New Delhi, Khattar had updated them about Vij not looking at files related to the health department.
