Violent clashes took place at many places in the state during the nomination for the Panchayat elections. On June 14, a violent clash broke out between two factions of the ruling TMC during the nomination of candidates at Canin in South 24 Parganas district. Both the groups attacked each other with bombs.

Earlier on June 13, there was a clash between supporters of Indian Secular Front (ISF) and Trinamool Congress. The Calcutta High Court has ordered the deployment of the Central Force to stop the violence taking place in the state regarding elections. But regarding this decision, on Friday, where the Bengal government had filed a review petition in the High Court. And today the State Election Commission challenged the order of the High Court in the Supreme Court.

Meanwhile, West Bengal Governor Shiv Anand Bose summoned State Election Commissioner Rajeev Singh. He called them to discuss issues related to Panchayat elections.

On June 15, a division bench of Calcutta High Court Chief Justice Shivaganaman and Justice Uday Kumar passed the order regarding the deployment of Central Forces.

The bench noted that the direction to identify sensitive areas and deployment of forces was given on Tuesday also but no commendable steps were taken in this regard.

While the State Election Commission says it may take a few days to identify sensitive areas from law and order point of view, the court said that taking more time would only do more harm.

BJP and Congress had filed a petition
The order was passed on a petition filed by Shubhendu Adhikari, Leader of the Opposition in West Bengal. In fact, the Election Commissioner of West Bengal Rajiv Sinha had announced the schedule of Panchayat elections in a press conference on 8th June. After this, two public interest litigations were filed by the BJP and the Congress.

In this, some parts of the notification issued by the State Election Commission for the Panchayat elections were challenged. In the second petition, there was a demand to deploy the Central Force.

Regarding the election date, the court has proposed to conduct voting on July 14 instead of July 8. At the same time, the order of the High Court has also come for the Central Forces.

Panchayat elections will be held in West Bengal on a single day on July 8. Counting will take place on July 11. Nominations are being filed from June 9, whose last date is June 15.
