Vipul Amrutlal Shah on the illegal ban of ‘The Kerala Story’ in West Bengal, says, “Theater owners are getting threat calls from police and administration.”

,story of keralaThe film, which released on May 5, has been the talk of the town ever since its release. The film revolves around girls from Kerala who were converted to Islam. The film tries to raise awareness against terrorism. However, a section of the society feels that it is a propaganda film. That’s why I was banned West Bengal, Now that the Supreme Court has ruled in favor of the film and lifted the ban, still the authorities are not allowing theater owners in Bengal to screen the film.
Talking on this issue, producer Vipul Amrutlal Shah says, ‘It is absolutely shocking that after the verdict, a completely illegal ban has been imposed in theaters in Bengal. Theater owners are getting threat calls from the police and administration that if they open the booking station, their theater will not be safe. The one or two people who have opened for booking have become so overbearing on the theater owners that no film is able to run at all.
He further said that this is a violation of the Supreme Court order. He said, ‘Theater owners are being threatened, so they are not able to come forward openly. They are not able to give any statement in this regard. However, they want to run the film. They want to show the film. But they are not allowed. This is a clear violation of the Supreme Court order. I am amazed at these people who are champions of democracy. Both the states are indeed behaving in the most undemocratic manner and it is shameful to stop the film after the Supreme Court order.”
