Mahadeshwar, considered a Uddhav Thackeray loyalist, had contested the 2019 state assembly election from Bandra (East) constituency but lost to Congress’s Zeeshan Siddiqui.
Mahadeshwar started his career as a teacher at Ghatkopar School in 1994 and served as principal at Raje Sambhaji School and Junior College in Santacruz for over a decade.
In 2002, Mahadeshwar was elected councilor for the first time. In 2003, he was elected as the chairman of the education committee of BMC. Mahadeshwar was elected as the 76th mayor of the city in 2017 and completed his term in 2019. Mahadeshwar was among the most educated corporators in the army and a graduate of Ramnarayan Ruia College.
A senior Army (UBT) functionary described Mahadeshwar as an old school Shiv Sainik and party loyalist.
The functionary said, “Mahadeshwar was a man who did not go beyond what was said but he was very sharp and good at his work.”
Mahadeshwar’s last rites will be performed on Tuesday afternoon.
