Vmc Wakes Up To Need For Safety | Vadodara News – Times of India

Vadodara: The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) formed a committee to inspect the safety of its important installations as well as places of recreation operated by contractors under a public-private partnership (PPP) mode. The committee was formed in wake of the boat tragedy in Harni lake which had left 12 students and two teachers of a school dead.
The committee will examine facilities like sewage treatment plants, water treatment plants, pumping stations, Ajwa reservoir, swimming pools, solid waste disposal plants and other such facilities. It will also inspect various equipment used at amusement parks and other recreational activities set up by private vendors operating in partnership with the civic body. The committee includes head town development officer Jitesh Trivedi and six engineers.
The committee has been ordered to visit the sites and submit detailed reports.
Sources said that operators who provide joyrides are supposed to obtain a series of certifications and have to share these with the VMC. Aatapi Wonderland, the biggest theme park, in the state had landed in trouble recently over the need for such certifications. It was shut down and reopened recently after it furnished necessary details to the civic body.
