Congress has a challenge to save its stronghold in this by-election because Congress has been winning from here continuously for the last 4 times. Santokh Singh Chowdhary was also elected MP from here for two consecutive terms. This time Congress has given ticket to his wife Karmjit Kaur.

The challenge before the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is to save its image. They have lost the Sangrur elections after forming the government in the state. In such a situation, if we lose here too, questions will be raised on the functioning of the government. In view of this, AAP has given ticket to former Congress MLA Sushil Rinku by joining the party.
