Vsku: VSKU Convocation: Honorary doctorates awarded to two. Hubli News – Times of India

Ballari: Two achievers were awarded honorary doctorate degrees at the 11th annual convocation of Vijayanagara Sri Krishnadevaraya University.VSKU) here on Thursday. Total 42 students got 53 gold medals.
Earlier, Governor Thaawar Chand Gehlot inaugurated the first floor of Administration Building, Center of Excellence for Multidisciplinary Advanced Research Facility building and hostel buildings for general category students and unveiled the statue. Swami Vivekananda, VC Pro. Siddu AlagurDistrict Minister B Nagendra, Syndicate members, Academic Council members, Registrar Prof SC Patil and Prof Ramesh Olekar were present.
Dr. JK Bajaj, President, Indian Council of Social Science Research, New Delhi, who delivered the convocation address, said that before independence iron production was done in Ballari district. He suggested that VSKU should make this one of its major research projects.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Siddu Alagur said that a botanical garden (Sasya Vana) sponsored by JSW was constructed for research and educational purposes at a cost of Rs 60 lakh. The construction of director office building and auditorium has started at a cost of two crore rupees Nandihalli PG Centre, he said.
Farmer Kavita Mishra and social worker Hirehal Ibrahim were awarded honorary doctorates. Since Ibrahim could not attend the event, his son Dada Qalandar received the honour. Music expert Pandit M Venkatesh Kumar, who was to receive an honorary doctorate, was absent.
42 students won 53 gold medals. Ruban L, Department of Mineral Processing, Nandihalli PG Centre, Hajiraji A, Department of Industrial Chemistry, Vijayanagara Srikrishnadevaraya University and Rishabh Kumar Mehta, Department of Commerce, Sri Gavisiddheswara Mahavidyalaya, Koppal, got 3 gold medals each. Mohankumar RG, Dept. of Kannada, PG Centre, Nandihalli, Swathi A, Dept. of Chemistry, VSKU and Karthik Reddy HK, Dept. of Physics; Suma Kayannavar of Sociology, PG Center Nandihalli and Vishalakshi of B.Sc., Vijayanagar MahavidyalayaHosapete got two gold medals each.
A total of 32 researchers from various disciplines were awarded doctorate degrees. Rank certificates were distributed to 123 students including 51 from UG and 72 from PG courses.
