'Need flying cars instead...': Jack Dorsey's sarcasm as Meta launches thread

One user said, “It’s really your fault mate.”

Threads, the new social media app from Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg to beat Elon Musk’s Twitter, has hit 30 million downloads to date. On the app, people can post text and links and reply to or repost others’ messages. The app will also allow users to port their existing follower lists and account names from Instagram. Meanwhile, Twitter founder Jack Dorsey took a dig at Mr Zuckerberg’s latest product over similarities with the microblogging platform.

“We wanted flying cars, instead we got 7 Twitter clones,” he said on the microblogging platform in response to a post that pointed out that there are several social media networks that look similar to Twitter. Applications at Post include Metaz Threads, Twitter, Jack Dorsey’s new platform BlueSky, Mastodon, and Post News.

One user said that Mr Dorsey made “two of the seven clones”. The Twitter founder replied that BlueSky and Nostra are “protocols that Twitter can build upon”. He said they would “remove some of the barriers and burdens. Not competitors.” He also said that BlueSky is a protocol that anyone can build. “Not a clone,” he insisted.

Billionaire Elon Musk also replied to her post with a laughing emoji. In another tweet, he said, “But Mark will always be Mark.”

Since being shared, his post has garnered 11.8 million views and over 42,000 likes.
