Watch: Imran Khan's aide Fawad Chaudhary rushes to court fearing arrest

Islamabad:

Pakistan’s former information minister Fawad Chaudhry on Tuesday made a run for his life by barging into a high court building here to avoid re-arrest.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Fawad Chaudhry, who was detained last week under maintenance of public order in the wake of violent protests by his party’s supporters following the arrest of Imran Khan, has petitioned the Islamabad High Court for acquittal. It was (IHC).

Justice Miangul Hasan Aurangzeb ordered his release after hearing a petition after he submitted an affidavit that he would not participate in or incite any violent protests, a triumphant Chowdhury waited for the written order to be issued by the court without prompting to run away.

Dressed in traditional salwar-kameez, the former minister’s escape drama unfolded when he felt police officers coming towards him after entering his white SUV to go home.

TV footage showed Chowdhury getting out of the vehicle and running towards the entrance of the court building. He was seen bending over and gasping for breath when a lawyer came to his aid. In the background someone is heard saying “bring water for him” and another voice says he is “about to pass out”.

“They [tried] To arrest again,” his wife Hiba said on Twitter.

Chowdhary later informed Justice Aurangzeb that despite being granted bail by the court, the police tried to arrest him. In response the judge provided the proverbial cool feature. The judge said, “You being a practitioner (lawyer) yourself should have waited for the written order.”

Finally, to the minister’s relief, late in the evening the same judge restrained the authorities from arresting Chowdhury in any case.
