West Bengal: Additional fuel tank of MiG-29 dropped during training, no one injured

The spare fuel tank of an Indian Air Force (IAF) aircraft MiG-29 got dislodged during a training session on Monday, and fell into a forest area near Kalaikunda base in Paschim Medinipur district of West Bengal. The MiG-29 aircraft was on a routine training mission at the time of the accident.

PRO Defence, Kolkata said, “There was no loss of life or property. The drop tank has been traced and is being brought back.”

“While returning to Kalaikunda airbase, the ventral drop tank used to carry additional fuel got dislodged and fell in an uninhabited forest,” the defense official said.

The drop tank is being brought to Kalaikunda airbase in coordination with the civil administration, he said.

The official said a probe has been launched to ascertain the cause of the incident.
