With panchayat elections due within a month, Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee has decided to take charge of the party’s affairs in Birbhum district. Arrested leader Anubrata Mandalsaid a senior party member.

Senior party leader and MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay said on March 17 that the decision was taken during a party meeting at Ms. Banerjee’s Kalighat residence.

“Our party chief will look after party affairs in Birbhum district. Arup Biswas, who looks after party affairs in East Bardhaman and Darjeeling, has been asked to look after Nadia district. Firhad Hakim will look after the affairs in Howrah and Hooghly.” districts,” Mr Bandyopadhyay told reporters after the meeting.

“Malay Ghatak will look after Bankura, Purulia and Paschim Bardhaman districts, while Tapas Roy will be the custodian of South Dinajpur district,” he said.

Party sources said that apart from senior leader Siddikullah Chowdhary, Sabina Yasmin has been asked to look after North Dinajpur, Malda and Murshidabad districts.

Party stalwart Mondal, who is still Birbhum president, has been arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for his alleged involvement in cattle smuggling.

Asked whether the leaders would act as party observers, the TMC MP said, “No one has been nominated by the party as observers. Each of these leaders will look after the affairs of the party in the districts they are assigned.” have been allotted.”
