In a statement, Eastern Railway said, 12 pairs of local trains were canceled and 20 trains were late on their way by an average of more than an hour.
Senior Railway Officers including Senior Divisional Engineer, sealdah, went to the spot to talk to the agitators. He told the protestor that the proposal for construction of new FOB has already been sent for the approval of the Railway Board. The construction work will start as soon as the approval of the board is received.
The agitation was withdrawn at 10:44 am and normal train services resumed in the section.
“On the first working day of the week, many commuters were inconvenienced due to the disruption during peak hours. There was ample scope for the pressure group to discuss their issues in an appropriate forum. Instead, they stopped the movement of trains and caused inconvenience to many passengers,” said a spokesperson of Eastern Railway.
