Opposing wrestlers: Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur on Tuesday said there will be an impartial inquiry into the allegations of sexual harassment leveled by women wrestlers against Wrestling Federation of India chief and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.

Thakur was in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh to attend the convocation ceremony of Laxmibai National Institute of Physical Education.

Asked about the ongoing protest by wrestlers demanding Singh’s arrest, the minister said he has already said that sports and sportspersons are the priority of the government.

The Union minister said, “The government has already constituted a committee (to probe the allegations against Singh). Police is probing the matter by registering an FIR. A chargesheet will also be filed and fair investigation will be done.”

The fight will continue till justice is served: Sakshi Malik

Earlier on Monday, Olympic medalists Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia said they will continue to fight for justice and asserted that no wrestler will back down or back down. “This news is completely wrong. In the fight for justice, none of us has backed down and we will not back down. Along with Satyagraha, I am doing my duty in Railways. Our fight is on till we get justice. Please Don’t spread any rumours.” Wrong news,” Malik tweeted after reports of him walking away from the protest surfaced.

Even Bajrang tweeted similar to his national colleague and termed the reports of withdrawal of FIR as “completely untrue”.
