Swiggy’s Chief Human Resource Officer, Girish Menon, announced the company’s intention to extend support beyond conventional parental policies.

The online food delivery company Swiggy unveiled a new programme on April 11 titled the “Paw-ternity” policy, which aims to help its staff members with pet adoption and care. The policy was introduced on National Pet Day.

Reports indicate that Swiggy’s Chief Human Resource Officer, Girish Menon, announced the company’s intention to extend support beyond conventional parental policies. By broadening the definition of parenthood to include pet parents, Swiggy plans to introduce the Swiggy Paw-ternity Policy, which will benefit all full-time staff members.

“Building on our gender-neutral parental policy introduced in 2020, which provides substantial paid leave for primary and secondary caregivers, in addition to bonding leaves, and time off for adoption, surrogacy, miscarriage, and IVF, we are now expanding our definition of parenthood to include pet parents as well. And that’s why, starting today, we’re announcing the Swiggy Paw-ternity Policy for all full-time employees,” Girish Menon, Swiggy’s Chief Human Resource Officer said, as quoted by NDTV.

Under this policy, employees who bring home new pets will be entitled to an extra paid day off on top of their yearly leave entitlement. Girish Menon pointed out that to ease their new family members’ transition, pet owners might choose to work from home during the first few months of their new lives. The policy also permits pet parents to take advantage of their sick or casual leave whenever necessary to care for their animals, including taking them to veterinarian visits or for regular vaccinations.

Furthermore, Swiggy is going to provide pet parents with bereavement leave as well, understanding the emotional toll that losing a cherished pet can take and giving staff members the time they need to process the loss and heal.

Swiggy, on the other hand, has also created Swiggy Pawlice, a feature within its app that helps pet owners locate lost pets. This effort takes advantage of Swiggy’s extensive network of delivery partners, who may now assist in the search for missing dogs reported via the app. Pet owners can report missing animals by submitting important information and images through the Swiggy app.
