Jaya Bachchan recalled her first meeting with Dharmendra and said that she hid behind a sofa.

Veteran actress Jaya Bachchan is celebrating her 76th birthday today, April 9. She was recently seen in Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, where she played Dharmendra’s wife and Ranveer Singh’s mother. However, Jaya Bachchan used to have a big crush on Dharmendra in the earlier days.

On an episode of Karan Johar’s talk show, Koffee with Karan, in 2007 she recalled her first meeting with Dharmendra. She said, “I loved Dharmendra… You know when I saw him for the first time and I was introduced to him, there was a sofa like this. I went and hid behind it. I was so nervous! I didn’t know what to do. There was this fantastic-looking man. I still remember what he was wearing- white trousers and a white shirt and he looked like a Greek God!”

It was when she worked with the actor in a movie called Guddi in 1971, that Jaya Bachchan admitted that she had a crush on him. Recently, Dharmendra reacted to this and told Zoom, “This is her love and respect speaking. I’ve known Jaya and Amitabh for a very long time now. I still remember the fun times that we had while shooting for Sholay.”

Meanwhile, on her special day, Jaya’s husband and veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan took to his blog to share that he brought in Jaya’s birthday at midnight. Amitabh wrote in his blog, “It is in the morn of another family birth… of which that has required no explanation… the better half celebrates her birthday TODAY, and all the greetings for her are recognised and shown gratitude, as always… A quiet family ‘bring in’ for the 9th on the midnight hour… and the love of immediate family presence…”

Meanwhile, on the work front, Jaya Bachchan co-hosts Navya Naveli Nanda’s podcast What The Hell Navya. Navya Naveli Nanda and Jaya are also joined by Shweta Bachchan.
