New president of BJP in Punjab, Sunil Jakhar.

BJP handed over the command of Punjab to former Congressman Sunil Jakhar before the Lok Sabha elections. This was a shocking decision from the point of view of BJP because Jakhar has come to BJP only for a year now. Despite this, everyone is curious to know the reasons behind this bet of BJP.

The main reason for this is the acceptance of Sunil Jakhar in Punjab. Despite being a Hindu leader, Jakhar is also very popular among Sikhs. Even Captain Amarinder Singh had accepted to work under his chairmanship when he was the Chief Minister.

After leaving the Akali Dal, the BJP is struggling to gain political ground in Punjab. In such a situation, she is looking for Sanjivani through Jakhar. However, to what extent this decision will go down the throats of BJP’s stereotypical leaders, there is uneasiness inside. Nevertheless, by handing over the chair of Prime Minister to Sunil Jakhar, the BJP has created maximum difficulties for the Congress in Punjab.

How Sunil Jakhar became BJP chief, 5 reasons…

1. Union Minister Shekhawat expressed confidence
The Akali Dal left the BJP on the agricultural laws. After this, BJP sent Union Minister Gajendra Shekhawat as in-charge of Punjab. After Shekhawat’s feedback, not only did Sunil Jakhar enter the BJP, but he also reached the chair of the Prime Minister.

2. Veteran of Punjab politics Jakhar
Sunil Jakhar’s father Dr. Balram Jakhar was a senior Congress leader. He was also the Speaker of the Lok Sabha for 10 years. The Jakhar family has huge political clout in Punjab’s Abohar district and has a strong hold in the neighboring districts as well. From 2002 to 2017, Jakhar has also been an MLA for three consecutive terms from the Abohar assembly seat.

During this he was also the leader of the opposition in the Punjab Legislative Assembly. Sunil Jakhar won the Gurdaspur Lok Sabha seat after the death of film actor Vinod Khanna. This time Jakhar did not contest the elections, but on the basis of his popularity, nephew Sandeep Jakhar managed to become MLA from Abohar bypassing the storm of Aam Aadmi Party.

3. Political understanding of the organization
Sunil Jakhar has been the Punjab State President of Congress from 2017 to 2021. During this Captain Amarinder Singh was the Chief Minister of the state. Then there was never any conflict between the government and the organization. Jakhar never got much attention from the government, so he did not criticize it anywhere, but stood firm for the strength of the organization.

4. Captain-Jakhar duo holds the key to power
Jakhar was given the responsibility of the post of Congress Punjab President from 2012 to 2017. It is said that the Congress returned to Punjab only after the pairing of Captain and Jakhar. During this, Captain and Jakhar played an important role in uniting the Sikh and Hindu vote banks in Punjab in favor of the Congress.

5. This Hindu leader is also popular among Sikhs
Jakhar is a Hindu leader from Punjab. Despite this, he always won in such areas, where the Sikh vote was more. Despite being a Hindu leader, he remained popular among Sikh voters. The Congress fielded him in Gurdaspur, away from Abohar, where he won. BJP was also searching for such a leader who could attract Hindu as well as Sikh voters towards BJP.

6. Sympathy for Zakhar
In September 2021, when Captain Amarinder Singh was removed from the CM’s chair by the Congress, the search for a new face started. Then Rahul Gandhi’s first choice was Sunil Jakhar. For this Jakhar was called back from another state. Congress also got voting done. Jakhar himself claimed that most of the MLAs were on his side. However, then Ambika Soni spoke about the Sikh CM in the Sikh state. After which the Jakhar leaf was cut.

Then in the contest between Navjot Sidhu and Sukhjinder Randhawa for the CM chair, Charanjit Channi won. After this, Jakhar openly said that Congress did not make him the CM because of being a Hindu. There are about 38% Hindu voters in Punjab, who were shocked by this fact. For this reason, there is also an atmosphere of sympathy for Zakhar.
