Will Look Into Sita’s Resignation Issue After Holi, Says Speaker | Ranchi News – Times of India

Ranchi: Jharkhand Vidhan Sabha speaker Rabindra Nath Mahto on Thursday said he would take up the request made by the leader of the opposition (LoP) Amar Kumar Bauri to initiate anti-defection proceedings against Mandu MLA Jai Prakash Bhai Patel, after Holi festivities. He would also look into the issue of resignation submitted by JMM’s Jama MLA Sita Soren in the same timeframe.
Speaking to TOI, Mahto said, “I came to know about Mandu MLA Patel’s shift to Congress through media reports on Wednesday. Later, my office also informed me that the LoP had sent me a letter in that regard. I am yet to receive it in person as I am in my constituency (Nala in Jamtara district). I will come to Ranchi after Holi and take up the matter.”
Patel, a three-time MLA, on Wednesday joined Congress in the presence of Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee (JPCC) president Rajesh Thakur and the Congress legislative party leader, Alamgir Alam, in New Delhi.
Later in the day, Bauri mailed a letter, along with a photograph of Patel being welcomed by Congress, to Mahto and sought Patel’s disqualification from the House on the grounds of defection under the 10th schedule of the Constitution.
Mahto said Patel’s case would be referred to an assembly tribunal.
The tribunal, led by Mahto, is also hearing a defection case against Rajdhanwar MLA Babulal Marandi, who had merged his Jharkhand Vikas Morcha-Prajatantrik (JVM-P) with BJP in February 2020.
The case was filed by JVM-P’s legislative party leader Pradeep Yadav, former Rajdhanwar MLA Raj Kumar Yadav of CPI-ML, among others.
Meanwhile, JMM’s Jama MLA Sita Soren, who joined BJP on Tuesday, sent her resignation to Mahto via email from New Delhi. Mahto said he was yet to accept her resignation as well because he was out of town. Mahto said he would take up the matter when he received the letter and after he arrived in the state capital.
