Woman impersonates RDO, dupes several people of ₹1 cr | Coimbatore News – Times of India

Tirupur: The district crime branch police on Saturday arrested a 48-year-old woman for impersonating a revenue divisional officer (RDO) and cheating another woman of 10 lakh by promising a government job. Her husband also was arrested for his role in her crimes.
According to a police officer, the couple had received 1 crore from various people by promising to arrange them government jobs and housing units of the Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board (TNUHDB).
He identified the arrested duo as R Kavitha and her husband Rajkumar, of Washington Nagar in Tirupur district. The officer said they were nabbed based on a complaint lodged by S Bama, 48, a tailor from Sedarpalayam near Avinashi, on Friday.
In her complaint, Bama said her neighbour Eswari had introduced Kavitha to her as the revenue divisional officer at the Tirupur collectorate.“Bama met Kavitha, who told her that the TNUHDB was constructing apartments at Kumaran Colony at Vavipalayam in Tirupur and she would help her get a flat there at a lower price. Kavitha also showed her an ID card issued by the government and told her that she had the power to allot the flats,” the officer said.
Bama subsequently paid 10 lakh to Kavitha in various instalments from December 2021 and January 2022 to get a flat and a shop for her disabled husband. “When Kavitha failed to deliver on her promises, Bama started pestering her. Kavitha then took her to Kumaran Colony and showed the flats. She also promised her that a flat will be allocated to her after the completion of construction work,” the officer said.
Bama, however, inquired about Kavitha and came to know thatshe was duping peopleand lodged a complaint. The couple was remanded in judicial custody.
