Woman Loses 49l In Cyber Fraud | Rajkot News – Times of India

Rajkot: A housewife from Bhuj fell prey to cyber fraudsters who swindled her of Rs 49 lakh by promising to send gold, clothes, and 80,000 pounds from the UK.
Hasmita Gondaliya, whose husband works abroad, received a friend request on Instagram a year ago from a person claiming to be Mukesh Patel. After exchanging numbers, they communicated via WhatsApp.Patel, claiming to have sent a gift parcel from the UK, requested Rs 2.35 lakh for its release once it reached New Delhi. Trusting his words, Gondaliya transferred the amount in two installments from her and her husband’s bank accounts
Subsequently, she was then asked to pay additional sums for clearance certificates, court affidavits, and police clearances. She was then informed that the UK government had halted the parcel due to suspected terrorism-related materials and demanded more money for an anti-terrorism cell certificate.
From Dec 2022 to Feb 2023, Gondaliya paid Rs 48.77 lakh in 45 transactions before realizing she had been deceived.
