Women above 40 must screen for breast cancer: CM Pramod Sawant | Goa News – Times of India

PANAJI: Chief minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday highlighted the importance of regular screening for cancer. Stating that around 3-4 women are detected with lumps in their breast at every screening camp, Sawant appealed to women above the age of 40 to get themselves checked.
Women, he said, don’t take enough care of their health.
He said breast cancer is one of the commonest cancers, followed by cervix cancer and oral cancer where those who chew tobacco and gutka are at risk.
Alcohol consumers are also at a risk, Sawant said, pointing out that most alcoholics are under the impression that alcohol can only damage the liver.
Early detection of cancer can ensure complete recovery, the chief minister said.
He attributed the rise in cancer cases to change in lifestyle as well as use of pesticides to forcibly ripen fruits as well as preservatives for food.
He was speaking at the inauguration of a ‘Cancer project for community and Ayurveda for farmers’ a consumer social responsibility initiative by Goa Shipyard Limited.
Under the programme, screening camps are being conducted in Sattari, Bicholim, Ponda and Dharbandora.
