World’s best: Historic Rajasthan Polo Club ground to reopen after 40 years Jaipur News – Times of India

Jaipur: Trying to make Rajasthan Polo Club (RPC) floor One of the best in the world, RPC is having a new turf relay after a long gap of 40 years.
If all goes well, in about a few months, Jaipur could witness a new green field to raise the spirits of polo lovers of the region.
The relaying work has already started and the RPC is hopeful that the ground will be ready for the tournament soon after the monsoon season gets over.
The historic ground has seen many international matches in the last four decades, which has led to wear and tear of the turf.
The RPC management had decided a few months ago that there was an urgent need to replace the surface, otherwise the quality of play would suffer.
“The playing field has become uneven due to too many tournaments in the last few decades. Three things are very important in polo. If even one thing is lacking, the quality gets affected a lot. Must be good as a horse rider. Even if the horse and rider are fine and the ground is not, the quality of the game is affected. Hence, we are relaunching the ground to strike the right balance and improve the quality of play,” said Sawai Padmanabh Singh.
He said that the new grass would be of high quality and would be imported from a foreign country.
“This time we are rolling out new grass that matches the best in the world. We have imported it from abroad. It not only lasts longer but also provides us with an even surface all over the ground. We have already planted new grass all over the ground. Monsoon rains will help the grass grow and tie it properly, Singh said.
He said that the relaying is done before the monsoon season so that it takes proper shape with the help of rains. “We have almost finished planting the grass and are waiting for the grass to grow so that the ground will be ready before the next season which starts in September-October,” Singh said.
“The game of polo has become very fast now. Surface relaying will definitely improve the quality of the game. We are planning to make Jaipur an international polo center and make this RPC ground one of the best in the world. Jaipur has a rich tradition and we should continue this legacy further,” said Singh.
