A US radio station has created history by becoming the first radio station in the world to feature a full-time DJ powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI).

US-based Alpha Media’s KBFF Live 95.5 FM has used Future Media’s RadioGPT software to create an AI/synthetic version of its midday host, Ashley Elzinga, for its midday show, Fox Business reports.
Alpha Media EVP of Content Phil Baker is quoted as saying, “Radio GPT allows us to feature our content creators with greater frequency, and deliver more relevant, timely and robust information to Alpha audiences and clients.”
He added that the AI would allow the radio station to be “more agile than ever”.
Last week, the radio station posted a tweet from Elzinga sharing the new AI host with its listeners.
In the video, the host’s comments can be heard played back by the AI as if it were a live recording.
“I feel like I have an off day,” jokes Elzinga.
Another video shows AI Ashley informing a caller that he has won tickets to a Taylor Swift concert. The AI’s voice sounds very similar to the host it’s modeled after, coming across as conversational and relaxed.
The station insists it will not be replacing the real Ashley, which allays some of the concerns of many local DJs, and Elzinga will continue to receive her regular salary, the report added.
Meanwhile, music streaming platform Spotify has rolled out its AI feature called “DJ” for premium subscribers in the UK and Ireland.
The feature was first made available to premium subscribers in the US and Canada in February.
