WWDC 2023: Apple may add Smart Display-like iPhone lock screen with iOS 17

Apple is reportedly planning a new lock screen interface for iPhones with iOS 17. According to a report by Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, the interface could show calendar appointments, weather and notifications in Smart Display style.

However, the view will only be available when the phone is locked. It will be positioned horizontally and will feature widgets on a dark background with bright text. with new display iphoneOn the lock screen, the idea is to make the device more usable when it’s placed on a desk or nightstand.

The display will be similar to the dedicated display offered by Alphabet Inc. Google and Amazon.com Inc., according to people familiar with the project. The feature is already available on Pixel devices when used with the Pixel Stand. Pixel devices also offer Google’s At a Glance widget that displays dates, calendar appointments, and other information from the Home and Lock screens.

According to the report, along with the iPhone, Apple can also bring this smart display feature to the iPad. The Cupertino-based company is also working on a magnetic mount that can be used with the device.

This feature will be introduced with iOS 17, which will be announced at the Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) 2023. The annual developer event will be held on June 7. Apple iOS 17 is internally codenamed Dawn.

According to reports, Apple is planning to bring significant changes with the latest operating system. This could include sideloading apps, enhancements to the Wallet app and Find My App, etc. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the iPhone maker may focus on updates to core system apps with iOS 17.

The company has already revealed several new accessibility features for its iPhone, iPad and Mac devices. These include Assistive Access, Live Speech and Personal Voice, Advanced Speech Accessibility, and Point and Speak.
